I just recently received a Facebook message from a pastor who said that for the past few years his church has begun the year with a fast. But this year he senses the Holy Spirit prompting him to start with a Wonderstruck Feast.
He wants his community to feast on the wonder of God.
Does that resonate with you? His message lit something inside of me.
As followers of Jesus, it’s time for us to recapture the wonder of God in our lives. When we rediscover the magnitude and marvel of God:
- We can’t help but share the Good News with others
- We can’t help but bow in worship
- We can’t help but pray boldly
- We can’t help but become more passionate seekers of God
- We can’t help but live with greater joy and delight
The truth is that laying hold of the wonder of God will ruin you in the most breathtaking ways.
I’m looking forward to 2013 for many reasons, but one is that I believe God is on the move in our lives, in our communities, in our churches, and our world.
I want to live expectant for all God is going to do! Don’t you?
To nurture our sense of wonder, we have some exciting plans in the works. Here’s a sneak peak:
January 1: Wonderstruck is more than a book–it’s a way of living awake to the wonders of God all around. The wonder of God, those moments of spiritual awakening that make you long for more of God are woven throughout your life. They’re waiting in your friendships and family, your workplace and church, your extraordinary moments and in your mundane, in your joys and your tears. Wonder is found in the delicacy of a falling snowflake when we consider the One who made it and laughter of a child when we listen close.
That’s why we’re inviting you to share where you are experiencing and seeing the wonder of God with others through 2013. Take a picture. Write a blog post. Share on your facebook. Create a Pinterest. Tweet. Post as you feel inspired, but know that each time you post we’re more likely to see it and it’s another chance to win some great gifts. Use the hashtag #LIVEWONDERSTRUCK.
That’s because we’re going to be scouring the internet looking for people who are choosing to #LIVEWONDERSTRUCK every day. On the first day of each month, beginning February 1 throughout all of 2013, we’re going to be picking someone who is living wonderstruck to receive a $50 Amazon Gift Card. And at the end of the year, we’re going to pick someone who has lived wonderstruck to receive a Grand Prize. We’re still finalizing the details, but let’s just say it’s something that will inspire wonder in an amazing way.
January 5: One of my favorite activities is taking an afternoon walk. Drinking in the beauty. Thanking God for His creation. Allowing creativity to bubble. Admiring God’s handiwork.
I’d like to invite you to go on a walk with me. Don’t worry–the trail is accessible to all–and the pace is a relaxing stroll. But I want to journey with you so we all grow even closer to God.
Lifeway officially releases the Wonderstruck: Awaken to the Nearness of God DVD Bible study. This seven-session study is filmed in the breathtaking Canadian Rockies and invites you to take your small group or book club on an adventure of exploring the mighty wonders of God including the wonder of divine expectation, the wonder of God’s presence, the wonder of friendship, the wonder of forgiveness, and more. With five nights homework each week (average time 20 minutes or less), participants will rediscover the wonder of Scripture and just how much God is at work in their lives. To learn more, click here. Invite your friends, book club, or small group to unwrap the gift of wonder together this spring.
January 14: We’re kicking off 21 Days of Wonder. Each day, we’re inviting you to not only pray for wonder but reflect on the wonder of God and engage in activities that awaken you to wonder. This is a time of prayer and seeking God that can change your entire year.
