How to Find Joy Today

The Bible isn’t a compilation of good ideas or religious ingenuity; its origin is rooted in God. This is His book and His story. God uses the Bible to reveal Himself to us, even today. [Tweet this]

Through the Bible, we discover God is good, just, kind, loving, merciful, eternal, and gracious. We learn God is sovereign and true. We catch glimpses of God’s power as the One who created and holds all things together. In the Bible we find not only that God goes to incredible lengths to invite people into a relationship with Himself, but also the consequences of those who choose to reject the loving invitation of God. The Bible also records the many promises and plans of God.

Learning of God's Attributes Through the Bible

If we want to know God and recognize His voice and presence in our lives, the Bible is the foundation and the filter for this journey. Scripture helps us to grow into mature Jesus followers, learn from our mistakes, and become all God has called and created us to be.

    I was thinking this same thing this morning in my Secret Place. I wrote this in my journal:

    Our problem today is we do not know God because we do not know Scripture. We peruse it looking for what we do not know. Looking to it as a know how book and not a know Him.

    We must dig deep, go out daily to gather the daily manner and relish eat bite. We starve for lack of the Bread of Life. At once we think we know Him when we take the crumbs from the table of some sermon or devotional. It sits sweet on our lips before melting away. There is no sustenance there. Only in drinking deep of the River of Life do we quench our thirsting souls and hungering after righteousness do we fill ourselves with the fullness of God. In Scripture we will find Him – the true Living God, in the cleansing power of Christ Jesus and the revelation of the Holy Spirit. With open eyes, unclogged ears, clear minds and yielding hearts we find Him – “God Spirit, infinite eternal, unchangeable in His wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness and truth” (Westminster Catechism). Let us lean in and listen to His heartbeat for He told us the Scriptures tell of Him and this truth is real, personal and available. We don’t need to famish at the buffet table.
