How To Launch The Best Bible Study Ever

How does your church launch small groups for the fall?

I had the opportunity to hang out with the ladies from Mission Hills Church in Littleton, Colorado, during their fall Bible study kick-off. They had the best idea for launching small group ministries, I just have to share.

Each Bible study option for the fall is denoted by one of three colors displayed by matching balloons at each sign-up table:

Blue: A Low Intensity Study

A great place if you’re just starting out in Bible studies, or if spending time in homework is an issue each week. Homework time is less than 30 minutes per week.

Green: A Mid Intensity Study

This is a great fit for those who want homework a few days a week. These studies include less than 1 hour of homework per week.

Red: A High Intensity Study

These studies are designed for those who really want to dive into the Word and study hard. The High Intensity study includes less than 2 hours of homework per week.

No. of Sessions: 12

Filming Location: Around Denver, Colorado

Homework: Five nights of homework, 15-20 minutes per night

What You’ll Need: 1 DVD per group; each participant should have their own workbook

Focus: The book of Genesis reminds us that God has been telling our love story since the foundation of the world. God is all-powerful, all-knowing, and abounding in imagination, creativity, mystery, and wisdom. Even when we question God’s love or act in disobedience, God pursues us. This study is designed to take participants through the entire book of Genesis and explore the unflinching love of our Creator.

SCOUTING THE DIVINE: MY SEARCH FOR GOD IN WINE, WOOL, AND WILD HONEY

No. of Sessions: 6

DVD Teaching Time: 8-11 minutes

Filming Location: Fields, farms, and vineyards

Fun Features: Experiential Activities, Fun Outing Suggestions, Scripture Memory, Notable, Quotable, Bonus Activities, and more

Homework: 1-1.5 hours per week for each session in the workbook; 30 minutes reading in the book

    Margaret,
    I have been leading bible studies in my home for several years. We usually take a break in the summer to allow all of us to pursue other bible studies. This is the first time I feel spiritually drained and know that my heart is not in it. I asked for someone else to lead and open their home; but the girls (new and old) joining us this fall won’t allow it.( Beginning Sept. 15th.) They said, “I had a break all summer! Now its time to get back in the word!”
    So with that being said, please pray that I will be wonderstruck too. Pray God will make my tired brain work. Pray that I will be inspired and spiritually awakened. I do not want to fail God or these girls. It has been a blessing to watch each of them grow closer to God with each passing year. I know God is smiling. I also know I can do nothing without Him.

    I’m into my sixties now (just a little way in), but my walk with God started back in the late 1960’s and into the ’70’s in South Carolina with a Bible study everyone called the share group. It started with us high school kids, and as we progressed into college years, it picked up several students from the local college as well. We had the Campbells, who moved to your state near Boulder I believe, and the Galloways (both “Papa” and “Mama G” have gone on, “Mama G” having died at 102 years just a few years ago). These people lead me to revelation knowledge that God has continued to build on daily all through my life. If not for that simple Bible study, where would I be today? Don’t consider leading the study drudgery, count it all JOY! Just as Paul did in prison, beaten, in chains, and threatened with execution. What did he do? He began singing and praising God. Mighty things happened then, but when the chains fell off, he didn’t run out shouting “free at last!” He stayed in there and ministered. The results were so important that they are included in the Bible.
    Many thanks to the share group with Tom and Joyce and the Galloways! Someone will be forever changed in your group if you can dig DEEP in the Truth. Dig a little deeper, and count it all joy. It’s a pleasure serving God. Any little thing he asks me to do for him PALES in comparison to what he did for me.
