This week, I’m giving away THREE copies of my friend, Lisa Bevere’s new book, Girls with Swords: How to Carry Your Cross Like A Hero. Lisa and her husband, John, founded Messenger International in 1990 and have impacted millions of people through their ministry and writings. I recently had the chance to ask Lisa a few questions about her book:
Margaret:Â With all the Christian books on the market today, what motivated you to write Girls with Swords?Â
Lisa: I wrote my first book, Out of Control & Loving It, in 1996 to encourage mothers in a similar season. Over time I’ve had the privilege of being one of many navigating this collective journey of God’s daughters as we go from strength to strength and nation to nation. Girls With Swords is my ninth title and was written with an over arching sense of urgency that there is a generation of daughters who are unarmed & unaware. Lioness Arising was a wake-up call… Girls With Swords is a weapon.
Margaret: Who should read Girls with Swords and why?Â
Lisa: Any women who knows she is created to be an answer in this time. It is increasingly evident that women have been targeted for destruction by the enemy and chosen by God to be heroes. The 50-150 million women missing from our earth due to gendercide is compelling evidence that there is an onslaught against the Bride. Jesus told his disciples to sell their cloaks and buy swords. We do not live by the violence of a sword but it is time we learn to live by the power of one.
Margaret: What were the biggest challenges or struggles during the writing process?
Lisa: My incessant travel schedule combined with my mother’s stroke and my very real tendency to procrastinate.
Margaret: What do you hope will happen in the reader’s heart and mind after they finish with the book?Â
Lisa: I hope they will begin to pray scary prayers forged in Heaven. Take up their cross, face forward, stand their ground, lift up their sword and let the earth see the lovely face of a hero!

I was never the good little lady who sits demurely waiting for someone else to fight for me.
Sounds like the book I need to channel that for God.
Hi,
Picking up a sword for the Lord and dangerous prayers?Sounds like a God adventure to be a blessing.
Sounds very interesting. Always love a good book written for women.
What most struck me was Lisa’s answer to Margaret’s question regarding her biggest challenge or struggle in the writing process. It amazed me how a writer could have so much challenges and still write a book to help others. That strength only comes from the Holy Spirit and the intimacy with the Lord.
Lisa’s video clip was so encouraging! It gave me a new perspective on the incredibly challenging year my family has been having, which began with my cry to God to do whatever it takes. Apparently you have to be very prepared to deal with the answer He gives you! As we continue ie to deal with challenging life circumstances (blessings in disguise) Lisa ‘s book sounds like exactly the thing I need to continue to pray effectively for my family.
This is a right now message for me!! Book sounds great, and I am in a season to fight and have victory! On going health problem I have had for 15 years is getting worse, I am in need of surgery, with no insurance I have to raise the money needed.
Love the title!!
Love and blessings,
Tina
This sounds like a rallying call to me, to be strong and face the enemy.
Our ladies group at church, WOW-Women of Worth, recently did the Lioness Arises Bible study and so many of the women are waiting to know what to do next! This book sounds like it would definately give them their marching orders! Also I have two daughters, one about to graduate in a few days and go off to college and the other is only a year behind her so I woupd love to have them both arm theirselves with the info in the pages of this book and learn how to take up their swords and fight!
Exactly what we need!! I love the title and can’t wait to read it!! I was raised in a non Christian home and I have a daughter who I am raising differently then I did, to love, serve, and obey the Lord!
Love, love, LOVE John and Lisa Bevere and their ministry. Love what they fight for. Looking forward to reading this book.
I’d love to win a copy of this book for my wife and daughters. I would read it too, of course, and learn with them:-)
Sounds like a great book not only for my life, but to help me as I raise my two daughters to live for God and stand armed against the enemy. I have learned that God’s armor is essential to put on every day because satan is going to attack and want to teach my daughters everything I can as they grow up. This book sounds like it would be great for this.
I want/need to know how to fight the enemy better…sound like a great resource to add to my arsenal!
No matter our age…we need to keep growing…letting God transform our fear into courage….count me in 🙂
Sounds like a good book to share with the next generation.
@lisabevere you inspire me daily! Thank you for what you do!
Praying for a generation of girls to grow up in a church where the women they look up to as role models have fearlessly taken up their swords in the Kingdom; where women’s voices are not silenced by an underlying culture that has been called “the church’s long slant against equality.”
I love the way Lisa and Margaret empower women with words of truth, the way the bible intends it.I felt the Lord pressing on my heart to pick up my sword and not to go down without a fight. For this generation, my daughter’s generation and the generation thereafter.
I am so excited about this book. Lisa is a gifted author, teacher, Pastor, and an all around great woman! Her message in Girls With Swords is profoundly relevant to every woman on planet Earth. Can’t wait to read it!!!
Ohhhhh, would love to read this and share with others. Thanks for the chance!
Sounds like a great book!
Wow, I already know to Fight Like A Girl so just give me a sword. My pastor would love this book, sounds totally like her philosophy. She has stood up with her sword for many of us.
This book has been on my wish-list! Encouragement I would give would be to put on the full armor of God. With all the temptation today, I think that’s important!
I think this is exactly what I need to read. I would love to win a copy of this book!
God Bless!
Pam
My aunt is reading this and says its amazing.
Wow, what an exciting book. As a mother of three girls, this would be great to teach my daughters. I can’t wait.
Love the title of this book. We all need to know how to use the Word of God more effectively and for me I am just learning how to do this. My encouragement would be to persevere in prayer and speaking God’s Word. We have the power of the Holy Spirit to lead us.
As the mother of two grown daughters and two granddaughters, I am seeing more and more the need to stand up for women in our country and around the world. God says to let our light shine and I think too many of us have taken it too easy, including myself. Bring it on!!
My motto has always been “Be a WARRIOR for Christ, and to teach your children to be warriors for God.” I saw this book title several months ago, but did not have a chance to purchase it at the time. In this world, we are in a BATTLE for Christ: daily taking up his cross to follow him…sometimes every minute in our thoughts, every hour with our prayers, and every day fighting for our families and for others in our circle of influence. I would be blessed to win a copy of this book to further encourage my walk with Christ and those around me.
I have been looking for and praying about what to share this summer with a small group of determined women. I truly GET this…I have spent my life learning the delicate art of submission with strength in the heat of the battle. I won’t give in, give up or give out…God willing!
Would love to win a copy! God bless! 🙂
This sounds like such an interesting book!
Always looking for a great read that turns into a study that deepens my walk with Abba. Thank you, Lisa and Margaret!
Thank you Margaret and Lisa!! I have followed Lisa’s ministry since the early days and am always encouraged to encounter our Lord in a deeper and more powerful way every time. So looking forward to reading this book and leading a small group study w it.:)
I would encourage the women in my life to appreciate and love themselves more. The greater One lives inside them!! The maker of heaven and earth.
BTW Love, John and Lisa Bevere!
Absolutely LOVE Lisa! She has such an incredible message to share with women. I have read Out of Control & Loving It and it’s a fantastic read for moms. So encouraging. Would love to read this one.
Thank you so much for speaking to us this weekend at the Sophia Logos conference. You are the most bubbly, sweet lady I have been blessed to learn from. I would love to read this book, just as soon as I finish Wonderstruck that is.
The world needs more women to be Warriors of God and to raise their children with the same values.
Blessings to you and Leif.
I would love to read and be equipped by this book. My calling is Women’s Ministry here in Orange Beach, Alabama and I would love to facilitate something like this to grow Lisa’s ministry. Until this moment, I have not been aware of it specifically, though am very familiar with the genocide aspect.
I seem to have been engaged in numerous battles over the past twelve years – freedom from addiction, abusive marriage (gratefully now in an amazing marriage!), infertility, multiple miscarriages, ill-health, financial difficulties BUT “Praise be to the Lord my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle” Psalm 144:1 God has totally redeemed every single situation. And as He promises, what was intended for harm He is using for good, to encourage and lead others. I am a little battle weary however (!), and would massively benefit from and be encouraged by learning some more sustainable warring techniques!! Thank you.
Wow! What a great book. I would love to win. I need this for myself and my daughter. She was a victim of abuse by someone whom I and she trusted and I love to find books that show the power of being a woman of and for God!
After a only a few minutes reading the blog and looking at the book on Amazon, I know that I will read it. I love the opening tie in to the Terminator. My husband loved those movies, and I love the analogy that Lisa draws. She is right. I also love what she said she hopes the reader is challenged to do: Pray scary prayers forged in heaven. I am up for the challenge!
Oh.. I hope I win.. I have been hearing so much about Lisa Bible Study, I just bought one of her books FIGHT LIKE A GIRL I am just now reading it.
Be blessed… Kitty
I like to remind the women in my life to remember that we’re not home yet.
Would love to win this book. Thank you. Mollie Barto
Sounds like a great book! My mom was recently diagnosed with cancer and has started chemo! I need to pray some BIG prayers! Thank you for this opportunity! 🙂
“I hope they will begin to pray scary prayers forged in Heaven. Take up their cross, face forward, stand their ground, lift up their sword and let the earth see the lovely face of a hero!”
I began praying the scary prayers a few years ago, and I know God has been preparing me since that time. In the past six months, it has become apparent the time to lift up my sword is upon me.
I know the enemy will attack with a vengeance hoping to kill, steal, and destroy all efforts to fulfill God’s plans and purposes.
I am inspired by just having read Lisa’s own description of the book and would love to read it!
Thank you for hosting the giveaway.
In His Love,
Dawn
A friend recently told me about this book . . . Very cool. It made me want to take fencing lessons! Looking forward to reading it and sharing it with my three daughters, one of which is giving me my first grandbaby -A little girl!
I’ve been wanting to read this book since I first heard about it. I love Lisa Bevere;s work — she has her finger on what today’s woman needs to serve God well. It would be an honor to receive one of these books! Thanks for the opportunity to get a copy of Girls With Swords!
Would love to win a copy of this book! Sounds like what Christian women need to hear today.
Another book from Lisa Bevere that challenges us women to surpass ourselves. Can’t wait to get my own copy, I am definitely among the group of women that know they have been called to bring answers to specific situations.
I would love to win this book! I have heard great reviews on it. Thank you for having this give away blessing.
Would love to bless a friend with the awesome book! Love everything Lisa does. She challenges us to live the amazing life God created us for.
I watched Lisa’s video last month. Her message was spot on for our culture today. So many have been torn up by sin and the moral downfall of our nation. It’s almost like there are no shocking stories these days. This sounds like an awesome resource for 1.new believers who are trying to cut ties with past. 2. For young people feeling the strong pull ungodly relationships and an anti-Christian culture and 3. For lay and ministry leaders who need strategies for reaching today’s women.
I so look forward to reading the book and using any group resources for a home bible study setting.
I think I really need to read this book and I would be so thrilled to win a copy. The message of the book resonates well with me since I’ve struggled with chronic pain for many years now and I truly want to learn to wield the power of God’s Word in my life and circumstances because I often feel so defeated. Lisa also mentioned several things in the video that I can relate to and that were intriguing to me. Thank you for doing this great giveaway!
Love the Beveres and their ministry. I have been wanting this book.
Losing Control and Loving It was a life-changing book for me and I can’t wait to read this one.
I would love to win this book and share it with others. From the video, I believe this book would be a great empowerment to all women of all ages.
What encouragement I’d give to women: Daily immerse yourself in God’s Word. Recognize His love for you and you will never forget that truth. As you learn more about God, He will reveal more about you. We find who we are in Christ – our true selves. Use God’s Word to build yourself up, rather than depend on your own feelings. God’s Word is the best weapon to fight against what tries to destroy us. Use it well and use it wisely.
Looking for a new book for our women’s Bible study and this sounds awesome.
I have read all of Lisa’s books and my business team is promoting this book. I can’t wait to get my hands on it!
Added this book to my must read list!! The title alone has me hooked!!!!
Whole heartedly seeking divine wisdom from The Lord. This book seems as though it will release unexplainable faith.
I loved Lioness Arising & have found myself compelled to rise into my right position as a Daughter of the King. This book will be a blessing on my journey!
First time I’ve heard of this author. Thank you for this opportunity, the information, and all that you do.
I have admired Lisa’s courage to “Dare to Share” her story and gems of wisdom. I would love a copy of her new book.
I so want this book!!! I hope I am an encouragement to others in all I say/do!!!
I recently saw Lisa on Life Today. I would love to read this book! I love ‘pray scary prayers forged in heaven!” Thank you for the chance to win a copy.
Looking forward to reading a book like this!
I love Lisa Bevere. I can only imagine the nuggets of wisdom and encouragement that fill this book. Would love to win a copy!
Very excited to read this!
Would live to win this book… if I don’t, there’s always Kindle! 🙂
Would love to read this book! Hoping to win!
Sounds like an amazing book on spiritual warfare! Can’t wait to read it!
What an amazing gift! I love everything about this book. I loved that she said “any woman who knows she was created to be answer in this time” wow! I want to be part of the answer!
I would love to learn to use my sword for God’s work.
I think that you need to live your life as an example of how Christ would want you to live- be kind to all, pray throughout the day, speak encouraging words and witness every chance you get. I could go on and on . Lead by example!
I am currently reading Lioness Arising and this sounds like the sequel to it. I have been blessed by Lisa’s writings. Many Christian women books focus on the softer side of women, but I love how God is using Lisa to reveal to the sisters the strong and powerful side in Christ we have.
Would love to read this book. I am always looking for new inspiration.
Girl ninja power….love it!
I am feeling so blessed as a daughter of The Most High, see her sisters that have been
placed in servant/leadership roles step up to the plate and knock it out of the park.
You are supporting one another’s gifts and talents for His Kingdom with dignity, and grace
and it feels so good to watch this unfold. May you always know that His love for you never
ceases.
