This week, I’m giving away THREE copies of my friend, Craig Groeschel‘s, new book, Altar Ego: Becoming Who God Says You Are. Craig is the founder and leading pastor of LifeChurch.tv–which has 15 campuses in five different states and is considered the second largest church in the country. Craig, his wife, and their six kiddos live in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Altar Ego explores the idea that you are NOT who you think you are. Encouraging us all to evaluate our identity, lay it down on the altar, and sacrifice it. Give it to God. Offer it up.
Why?
Because you are who GOD says you are. And until you’ve sacrificed your broken concept of your identity, you won’t become who you are meant to be. When we place our false labels and self-deception on the altar of God’s truth, we discover who we really are as his sons and daughters. Instead of an outward-driven, approval-based ego, we learn to live with an ‘altar’ ego, God’s vision of who we are becoming. Altar Ego reveals who God says you are, and then calls you to live up to it.

Congratulations to the winners: Nancy, William Hancock, Sonia Kadima
Who does God say YOU are?

I’d love to win this book! I was just watching a TV special, and a quote from that has me intrigued by this topic, “who am I when I’m not doing the things I identify myself as?” Indeed!
I want to win! This is right up my alley and potential for our next Women’s Bible study…..
I heard Craig speak for the first time last year at the Willow Creek Leadership Summit (telecast at Grace Chapel, Lexington, MA) and soaked up what he had to say. One statement he made was, “If you’re not dead, you’re not done.” Would love to read his latest book!
How many times lately I’ve tried to determine the real focus of my life…the actual direction I’m supposed to be going.
Usually I ask God, then blithely go on doing what I do, reacting instead of living.
Yep. I could use this one. I will take it and a chair to the mountains ti disconnect and read.
Loved hearing him speak at Willow as well. This is a topic we always encourage our Bible study women to explore.
I love to live the way God intend!
Definitely one of the people on my bucket list I would live to have a chat with.
Very cool! I’ve heard great things about this!
Ohhh! As soon as I saw this I almost squealed with excitement because I’ve been wanting this book since it came out!
God says a lot about who I am, but my favorite is probably in Isaiah 43:1 :But now, this is what the LORD says– he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
God says to me “You are MINE!!!!”
I have been blessed by Matthew West’s new song, “Hello My Name IS.” I have been known to sing, “Hello, my name is Child of the One True King” at the top of my lungs. Sadly, I still act like “Child of Needing Others’ Approval.” Learning to leave the latter for the former is hard!
Yes and Amen! Now if I could just live this out!
I would love to read this book. Sounds great!
I’d love a copy of this book. Knowing who we are in Christ is so important! I’m a teacher needing to recharge this summer by reading great books like this!
Sounds like a great book – I’d love to read it this summer!
I would love a copy!!!
I have been going to therapy weekly (with a Christian counselor) for precisely this reason! I am trying to examine and tear down/remove my perception of who I think I am-this broken, failing, unworthy, unloveable human being. I am learning that God made me for a purpose and knows who I really am. I need to listen to Him, not myself. As you said at E-women in Tulsa, I am loved, I am loved, I am loved. I need to learn to love myself as God already does. I would really enjoy reading Altar Ego and learning more about my purpose and worth in God’s eyes.
I would love this book!
I love the idea of the book! Too often I believe the voices in my head that I’m a failure, no good, or just plain mediocre. That’s when I try to hang on the truth that God tells me I’m His beloved, His precious child, His chosen one.
This sounds so good; I need it. I’m pretty tired of who I think I am.
Sounds like an AWESOME read! I really want to win! God bless ๐
I love Craig Groeschel’s books (I own “The Christian Atheist” and “Dare to Drop the Pose”! This one looks awesome!
Please enter me to win! (if you accept Canadian entrants, that is).
Thank you!
Jenn
It sounds intriguing. It is a constant struggle, at least for me, to set aside what other people say or think and let God define me.
I so want to be and understand who God made me to be. Please enter me to win this book. Thank you!
Sue Henry
I would love to win a copy of this book. All of Groeschel’s books have impacted me.
Wow! this sounds like a book for me, easily offended? Seeking others’ approval? I believe that reading this book provides the right foundation and the right tools to become who God designed you to be.
Sounds like a great book…I’m still working on this concept…I’m a work in progress…
Thanks for the chance to win a copy.
This book I believe will if it has not already revolutionize the world and the Church! Who does God say that I am? He says I am His beloved child! He says I am saved by His Son!. He says I am free and not condemned! thank you for offering this book and I hope to win:)
Please add me to the list of those who would love to win this book. I like to link scripture to different stretches, and I think linking these identity facts to stretches that could be done daily would be powerful for me and everyone I could share them with.
PS We were at Redrocks Thursday night for Hillong United worship. Eeverytime I see the sign for Morrison, I thank God for your ministry of words, Margaret. Seems now is a good time to thank you!
This book sounds amazing and intriguing. I would love to be able to read it and watch how it affects my world.
I would love to read the book and then pass it along to a particular friend of mine who is going through a crisis of identity right now. If I am correct about Craig’s words in this book (I’ve read some of his other writings in the past), they are just the words that she need to read/hear from someone other than me. We have been friends for so long that she can sometimes let what I say just slip right through one ear and out the other. Maybe this book is exactly what she needs at this point in her life.
Would love to win a copy. It sounds very interesting; an area of life every woman could use a little improvement. And things are just very expensive in Hawaii!!! Thanks for the opportunity ๐
Blessings,
Rochelle
I would love to win this book! Thanks for setting up the give-away.
Have been trying to teach youth and young girls for years now about our identity coming from Christ and not from others or our society. Oh to be able to impart to us each one the truth of our worth and value being birthed, rooted and nurtured in God Himself. Looking forward to reading this book. Thanx for sharing.
I LOVE Craig, and i would LOVE to win his book. THANK YOU!!!!!!
Identifying and stepping away from my false self is easy enough but I’ve never been satisfied that I’ve really uncovered my true self, which would be the way God sees me. I’ll be very interested to hear how Craig unpacks this. Its a crucial question to ask ourselves – I think God says I am His beloved child – uniquely created to love and serve him and my fellow person.
I haven’t heard of this book until now. I definitely believe that all of God’s children need to know their true identity in Christ. It is very important! It is great that this book addresses the issue of spiritual identity and helps the children of God become who He created them to be for Him and His plan for them.
Sounds like a great book and thank you for a chance to win! ๐
Such wonderful timing to read this book.
Am trying to find my place in God;s plan and service with a new diagnosis of Sarcoidosis, Seizures and low vision.
I am not “what” the doctors call me, I am not what satan whispers, I need to hear who God says I am !!
Sounds like a great book! I would love to win a copy!
I love the books that Craig has written in the past. I am sure this will be another great one. I would love to win a copy.
I need this book!
I have been working on my education for 7 years consecutively and need my sole replenished with Christian authors. Thank you for this opportunity, Margaret!
I really want to read this book. I definitely need to learn how to renew my mind with God’s truth and know my identity in Christ instead of placing it in other things. Thank you for doing this giveaway!
God says I am His Beloved … precious and blameless in His sight. ๐
Groeschel’s book sounds right up my alley! This is a daily struggle for me because I am an approval junkie — seeking man’s approval over my precious Lord and Savior’s approval! It reminds me of the popular song by Jason Gray-“tell me once again who I am to you, I belong to you-I am a child of God-I am the one you (God) love!” Would really be grateful to receive this book should I be selected as the winner. ๐ Thanks for the opportunity!
Just bought “The Search for Significance” and I think this would be a wonderful companion. I am beginning to meet with a 20-something gal and we are going to work through the book. So this book really intrigues me! BTW I love your books…I was just introduced to your work this spring and am hoping to hear you in the NWArkansas area soon!
Working on empty of self, naked emotionally and unashamed, audience of one. It is a daily choice.
I would love to win this book. There are a lot of things I can learn and teach to our youth group. Always looking for ways to point them to their Identity in Christ.
HIS!
Centering Prayer teaches us to let go of our false selves and become who God created us to be. It is a lifelong process full of hills and valleys, but a journey to freedom and unity with the Divine.
Thanks Margaret! This book looks great, convicting, uplifting, and challenging all rolled into one!
Margaret, I vote you give it to Wade… ๐
Hi Wade!
Great ladies Sunday School class idea!
I would love to win a copy of this, I have several of Craig’s other books, and I love them.
Wow! Would love to win and read this book! It looks like something that would help me greatly in my identity in Christ and pursuing His heart! Blessings!
Would love this book!
I just became aware of Soul Detox, his other recent book.
I would be great to read more of his work.
Would like to win this book very much! So glad to be a child of God!
Margaret, I would love a copy of this book! It may be a great topic to share with my daughter as she leaves high school and prepares for college.
Would love to have a copy of this! Have heard nothing but great things about this book and it is honestly a topic that I myself continually battle with.
