Remember the early days of Toms Shoes when the buy-one-give-one concept emerged?
Something never felt right about buying shoes that felt like scratchy fabric on flimsy cardboard.
Maybe Iām coldhearted. Or I just have an achy lower back.
But buying unattractive or uncomfortable products to make a difference when the products sat unused in my closet never seemed quite right.
Toms Shoes has come a long way since those early days. Now my feet (and back) feel much better in their products. They helped pioneer a more social conscious way of shopping.
What joy to know that more fashion brands are emerging with stunning products from around the world. That. Donāt. Sit. In. My. Closet. Unused. Let me highlight and giveaway a few!
At the Catalyst Conference a few weeks ago, I made a new friend, Liz, who launched a breathtaking brand based in Uganda known as Sseko Designs.
Sseko produces buttery soft leather handbags, adorbs accessories, and super cute sandals with interchangeable fabric designs. Check them out, here.
The business launched as a way to generate income for high pot
ential, talented young women to continue on to university.
BTW, Liz even survived the great whites on Sharktank and lived to tell about it.
Today, her business is thriving. Every woman who has graduated from Sseko is pursuing her college degree or has graduated from university and on her way to making our world a more beautiful place.
This week Sskeo is giving away their brand new “Sophia Bush” gift collection–which includes a pair of black ribbon sandals, a set of bangles and a set of Be Brave cards. (gasp).

To enter to win, simply comment what you love about these products on this blog below.
Liz is a new friend, but you also must meet my long-time friend, Maegan Hawley. After visiting a group of women who had come out of the sex industry in Thailand, she began wondering if there was a way to fuse her love for fashion with her desire to empower these women. She founded Ethic Goods out of National Community Church in Washington D.C.
Her Ethiopia collection employs over one hundred HIV+ women who are breaking the cycle of poverty. Each piece is made from bullet casings collected from former conflict areas of Africa and made into beads.
Ethic Goods is giving away their gorgeous Ombre Layer NecklaceĀ . (XOXO)

To win this gorgeous necklace, simply comment what you love about what Meghan is doing on this blog below.
And YOU CAN SAVE 20% on any purchase from Ethics Goods at check out this week with COUPON CODE: FBWJ.
Sseko and Ethic Goods remind us of a challenging truth:
With the love of God, anything can be remade into something beautiful.
And they remind us:
We can dream big dreamsāThy Kingdom Comeāand change the world.
Congratulations to our winner,Ā LaCinda Sigmon, for being our Ethic Goods winner and to Andrea Rust who will walk away with the Sseko “Sophia Bush” gift collection!

I love being introduced to new ethically made products. Thank you for sharing these! I so resonate with what you’ve said here. Hearing that women are getting degrees and being able to work using their gifts and talents is inspiring. And that necklace. Oh man that is amazing. Such a reminder that what the enemy meant for destruction, God uses for good.
I love their simplicity. ?
I love the fact that she is taking women who the world would throwaway and gives them a chance to better themselves and earn some money while keeping their dignity.
I wear alot of products that support worthy causes, and I love their mission and their passion for people. The products look easy to wear and could be used as a talking point for missions. Great job, Liz!
You inspire me, Margaret. Your promoting things that convict you and say the hard things that Christians need to hear. And it’s not just because you face death everyday, it’s because you listen hard to what the Holy Spirit of God tells you…after sitting quietly with Him. I’m so thankful to have heard you speak live at bravewomen.org in Austin and MomCon2015. You are becoming bolder and braver as you Scout the Divine. Hugs to you!! (Please don’t enter me, I just wanted to share.)
I love the Be Brave cards! We can all use extra encouragement, every day!! Thank you!
Love what Liz is doing and continues to do! Her products are awesome and I love the bangles and sandals. Seeing her at catalyst atl was inspiring! Great to see Meagan inspire hope in others from a bad place to a good place!
I remember seeing the sandals on Shark Tank and looking them up online. So cute! And what a testament to being made ina creative God’s image, that these two women could come up with such a simple concept that can change so much!
I love that they are empowering women all over the world.
Those sandals look super comfy.
I am committing to make most of my gift purchases this year provide assistance to those in need. I love that these companies provide an opportunity for these women to thrive and for our dollars to be well spent.
Both of these women are incredibly creative! They have found ways to fuse their talents and passion to affect change in the world. Breathtaking!
Thank you Margaret for sharing… It is always good to have new places to shop with a purpose… I love the simplicity of the necklace… Blessings
Beautiful. Just beautiful.
Love that we can still look good while doing good! What an amazing thing Meghan is doing for these precious women!
Would it be church like to scrub our on site book stores of the pale, “Christian” products and give space and presence to these colorful, innovative products? I am starting this murmur in my church. Let’s be passionate about who we are in Christ and put this into action. I want to see the finger print of the artist. And know what we buy and wear a make difference.
One artist here for the artist.
Ha! Well, just sayin …
I love learning about companies like this. Beautiful products and purposeful purchasing. Noonday Collection is another great group.
I love them all but mostly the idea of sensing the hands that made them and the promise of where God will take those hands.
I love that these are women helping and empowering women all over the world! I also die for the gold bangles!
Oh my, the products are so cute, and the causes so amazingly worthwhile. I love when I can help empower women!!! Wearing cute shoes and necklaces while doing it, is the icing on the cake!
Thank you for shining a light – always! Love these lines.
I love being able to benefit others while getting a great product for myself!
What’s NOT to love??? I think that what I love most is the practicality of these yummy designs. Not pretentious but also, as Margaret said, lovely to look at and use. To say nothing of the fact that young women are being empowered to live life!
what an awesome reminder that God is on the throne and He does make beauty from ashes. To know that these products are helping women be restored and thrive is so encouraging and humbling.
I love when anyone takes a love that some consider frivolous (like fashion) and turns it into something that is impacting the lives of real people who need help. Good on you both Maegan and Liz. I think those ribbon sandals look SO fun. I would love to wear them and share how buying them can help women.
I love that this helps and empowers others!
I have been so convicted lately about the way I spend money! I am on a new quest to make sure the money I spend on all goods for my family support and lift up those who are making the goods. I love that both Sseko and Ethic Goods empower the women who make the goods, plus the products are beautiful!
I love that she was able to creatively put 2 things she loves together and support and empower many along the way. And they make beautiful things!
The Ethics Good program is incredible. Turning something broken and ashen like bullet casings into something so beautiful…a way to tell an incredible story of redemption as the women create and as it is worn.
I’ve been becoming more aware of my purchases recently – and I love the opportunity to make a difference, while being comfortable and cute! And the fact that these products will empower and encourage under-resourced women? A total win! Thank you for sharing these companies with us today. š
Beautiful products! Thank you for sharing. I love that both organizations work to break the cycle of poverty: helping others to restore dignity in their own lives and communities.
Super sweet pieces! I so much appreciate the assurance of fairly traded items. May God continue to increase opportunities such as these for our sisters across the globe!
Liz and Maegan are amazing human beings! I love that they genuinely care about helping those women better their lives. May they always be blessed. ā„
Tom’s brand shoes are so nice and they even give a pair to someone in need when a pair is bought. So thoughtful!
I’ve been following Sseko for some time. They are awesome. The products are top quality but who they employ & why is just remarkable. I hope they continue to grow. Great company.
As a college professor I love that these products are used to empower women in education. This means so much to me and I know it changes lives! To God be the glory!
I saw the episode on Shark tank and was so very impressed with their mission! I love the versatility of the sandals, but I love the cause more!
I love new and usable products that help people, women and children especially! Thanks for introducing us to this line.
I love hearing about people like these women. They decided not just to create a business, but also decided to use said business to help change the lives of others. It looks like the products are beautiful and unique!
Buying products like these give you the best of both worlds. You can purchase beautiful and unique products while helping someone else have a better life. Congrats to Meghan for being brave and using her gifts to give back!
Thank you for sharing these, and giving us a chance to try them out! I love that both Sseko and Ethic Goods are empowering the women who make the goods, plus the products are gorgeous!
Great that you are endorsing such an amazing product that is designed from Uganda. The necklace is also a winner as it goes with most any outfit one wears. It is wonderful when what we purchase makes a difference in the lives of others.
I love everything about what these woman are doing to make a difference in other women’s lives. These fashion items are no doubt beautiful…but the story behind the fashion is what’s so beautiful. Anytime we can purchase items to help someone else in need, God honors that business woman, and his love is a testimony through wearing the beautiful items. It also gives an opportunity to tell others in spreading the word when asked about what you are wearing! Win, win situation! LOVE!
What a wonderful way to help God’s children ! It is so inspiring and i stand in awe of her desire to provide jobs and help these women see God’s grace in action. Thank you !
I love what Liz and Maegan are doing to break the cycle of poverty by creating something beautiful. BTW, we really enjoyed hearing you at Catalyst. My husband and I volunteered, but we both were able to catch your sessions.
I love the simplicity and the concept of these items, and it is a wonderful way for women to support women.
I love the opportunity for women to be allowed to be productive and use their talent! They earn wages and restore self-worth. A win-win, for sure! (And a girl cannot have to much jewelry!)
What a privilege and honor for women of Uganda to earn their way to university! Educating women is the key to changing many areas of the world. Cute sandals and bangles! And I love the Be Brave cards. We don’t begin know bravery here!
Both these women are helping women in very practical, sustainable ways. All the products look lovely too. The Be Brave cards are inspiring.
I love companies designed to make a difference! Those sandals!!!! Love!!
Oh my! What sweet, beautiful designs!
As a xeroshoes girl,, I love the idea of a dressier, classier version in the blush set! I’ve just finished Annie Downs’ book Lets All Be Brave and love the cards for have reminders!
Thank you for sharing the work these awesome teams are doing!
Very pretty and tasteful. I can see why these would be popular.
I already knew about Sseko Designs and love what they do, but I’m so glad you introduced me to Ethic Goods. I love purchasing from companies where what I purchase benefits and blesses others, because the blessing is shared all around from buyer to seller to those employed by these companies. The ombre layer necklace is beautiful and I now want to check out their other products. My heart is also burdened for those rescued from sex trafficking and those living in poverty. What a creative and lovely idea to use bullet casings to make jewelry. I really love it that these companies demonstrate the love of Christ and are all about redemption and restoration! Thank you so much for doing this great giveaway!
I love to hear about businesses that are changing the world for good, and I would rather buy products that help people. I love the interchangeable sandals.
Love ethnic stuff! Great cause! Thanks for the giveaway…Gina F
I love the “be brave” cards and the bangles!! I love purchasing from companies that bless others! I also love that necklace!!! I am so thankful that your blog continually brings to light businesses that help and make a difference…truly doing God’s work!
I LOVE products and companies founded on missions and the betterment of others lives. I have a sponsored child in Uganda and I place in my heart for the country so I love how Sseko Designs is creating futures š
How wonderful! It warms my heart that her products are ethically made. š
I love how Liz is changing the cycle of poverty by providing an education. Meagan’s jewelry design redeems the years the locusts have eaten by transforming bullets into beautiful things. Thank you for featuring how our sister believers are changing lives with the least of these, I’d wear & share both with delight.
I love Tom shoes and what they are doing! May God continue to bless them in this ministry!
Lovely, ethically-made and customizable – could it get any better?
I have love Sseko for quite some time now and have dreamed about getting my own pair! Their new fall line is so great!
Love this, education is sooooo important. Thanks for sharing these.
I love it when I can help someone with simple purchases.
Those sandals are really cute. I’ve been looking for some like that!
I love not having to choose between something beautiful and something that my heart knows is good. I can support something that I believe in while enjoying some pretty in my life. I applaud these companies and the people behind them for not settling for shoddy workmanship or taking advantage of people in the process, but being proactive to do just the opposite. Instead of asking what they can get away with, these products seem to scream generosity. How much can I give back? I see God’s kingdom coming in these little bits of restoration in the business world.
I love the products but even more the reason they were created. i love supporting these endeavors!
So thankful for these women who are using their God-given talents to share the love of Jesus. It truly is faith with works in action! To be able to be a part of the larger vision of empowering the victims of human trafficking and encouraging education in a productive, tangible way is a blessing!
I’ve never seen these before, but would love to try. Reading the book Wonder struck, and it’s Gods perfect timing! So thankful!
I would have to say that everything looks stylish and the shoes look comfortable.
I LOVE that she is employing and empowering women while bringing awareness!
I love that Sseko is giving women the opportunity to earn income and pursue an education! And how wonderful that they are producing quality products that people can buy and know they are supporting a good cause!
I love Meghan’s jewelry, and the fact that it’s providing a fair wage for women and an opportunity to rise above poverty and illness. The fact that the jewelry is made from recycled items and even bullet casings is a reflection of how God can create beauty from ashes, and make all things new! Love it!
I love the looks of these items; they are very beautiful and I am more thrilled with the ministry behind them. Meghan is phenomenal and the necklace that’s being given away is spectacular! š
Beautiful products by beautiful women that don’t just sit and wonder what to do. They are doing something about issues dear to their hearts and empowering women. Love it!
Thanks so much for highlighting these two great entrepreneurs. I’m always looking for opportunities to lift up and support women who are under duress. I will share these links with my friends.
