Maybe you’re in a season of abundance. You have favor and delight and more opportunities than you know what to do.
Maybe you’re in a season of grace. You’re learning your limitations, discovering weaknesses, and awakening to God’s provision in the midst.
Maybe you’re in a season of adversity. Your marriage or finances or health or job is relationships are crumbling.
No matter what season you find yourself in, your Heavenly Father wants to speak to you.
The beginning of a new year provides an opportunity for reflection and vision cast. This season is to both look back and press forward in our relationship with God.
Over the past few years, I’ve asked God to give #oneword for the upcoming year.
One word that I can study.
One word that will perk my ears every time it appears.
One word that can be used to know the depths of God’s heart.
One word that will lead me closer to Christ.
Previous years’ words include—listen, wonder, joy, love,
I recently asked for your advice and many of you shared the one word God is speaking to you. Your words took my breath away and made me ache for Jesus more. Abide. Reset. Discipline. Balance. Renewal. Perseverance. Flourish. Intentional. Joy. Trust.
This year I’m inviting you to ask God for your one word.
The word He wants to use to transform you and make you radiant like Christ.
Our team put together this FREE One Word Guide to help you select your #oneword for this year.

Hi Margaret,
I look forward to using this guide. My word for 2017 was “organize” and I pretty much blew it. It’s hard to imagine that I couldn’t organize my life in 365 days, but I accomplished very little in this area.
But it’s a new year and a new opportunity. Thank you for creating this guide to get me off to a good start!
Thank goodness for fresh starts, Diane! May this year be one of joy! Hugs!
Mine downloaded great. I have asked the Lord for a word for several years now. I also ask for a verse for the year. Last week on my personal blog I encouraged my readers to choose a Word for 2018. Then today as I read your blog I see you did the same. Appears we are kindred spirits.
Did I miss it in your post? What is your word for 2018?
This year my word is Peace. And I sure could use a peaceful, uneventful, year.
May 2018 be a year of blessing for you and yours.
Lalalove that, Sandra! May you be overwhelmed with the peace that only our Father can bring. Hugs!
Thanks for the download as well as all of your encouraging emails and blogs! When praying for a #oneword and giving the Lord an extensive list of things I need to work on/grow in, I was interrupted by, “Fun.”
Me: “Seriously, Lord? Doesn’t seem spiritual to me. Besides, I don’t know how to have fun anymore. The hard things are too hard, there’s too much work to be done, fun is not in my DNA, even what I do for fun I take too seriously, AND I’m battling depression!”
Jesus:”I rest My case.”
The Lord knows what we need! Praying your year is filled with FUN and that you find it around every corner. Praying you learn to let go of what is hard and fully embrace what God has in store for you! Huge hug!
I have always done a Word for years and didn’t know other people did the same until a couple of years ago. So, I started my Bible Study Group praying for a Word about 3 years ago now. I find this is a powerful tool for The Lord and I to connect on each year. Last year 2017 My Word was Fearless
2018 My Word is Unshakable
It is always exciting how I grow closer to Jesus with each Word He gives me.
I shared your posting with the Gals from My Bible Study Group so they could see that others do this too. Thank You Margaret!
Thank you for sharing, PeggyAnn! Love that you have done this for years and invite others into the same thing. Huge hug!
Mine was in ‘My Files’ under downloads
Thanks for your help!!
I was thinking for my 60th year that peace would be my word. Don’t you think that I would have how to experience God’s peace figured out by now? At Christmas, John 14:27 in the NLT spoke to my anxious, fearful heart. “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
BUT, God gave me a different word…”Sanctuary “. I was searching for something and this word popped out at me like a neon sign. I can’t wait to see how God uses that word in my life this year.
By the way…I didn’t get the email with the free download about one word.
Happy New Year!!
Janie
I love when the Lord makes it abundantly clear what the word for the year is! Praying He reveals Himself to you throughout this year! Hugs!
I have received a lot from the book of Joy and have been in the email list ever since the class.
Thank you for sharing, Tonya! Praying your year is filled with more JOY than you imagined! Hugs!
PURSUIT is my one word challenge! While reading I’ll Push You by Patrick Gray and Justin Skeesuck, I was convicted by the chapter titled “Pursuit” and their emphasis on the necessity of pursuing relationships with friends and God. I am a writer for a missions magazine, and I recently learned that the organization’s theme for 2018-19 is “unshakable pursuit.” With two challenges already before me, I have no other word for consideration. I’m intrigued to see what God is going to do in my heart and life as I follow hard after Him in fresh pursuit.
Lalalove this! May He draw you closer to Himself as you pursue after Him. Huge hug!
Margaret, you inspired me with the #oneword for 2017; I chose breathe. It proved to be a timely word last year! This year I believe my word is held… less focus on doing, more on being. Held in the arms of the Father…
Beautiful, Megan! Praying you experience great depth of relationship as you are held by our loving Father. May others be impacted by your willingness to just be. Huge hug!
I have tried three times but nothing is coming through on my computer.
Can’t figure out what I am doing wrong.
