Jesus said:
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13).
Thousands upon thousands of our troops are ready to lay down their lives. What a privilege to honor and celebrate the heroes who have already sacrificed their lives for us this Memorial Day.
In 1865, Union prisoners of war were buried in unmarked graves in South Carolina. Freed slaves, known as freedmen, knew of these soldiers and organized a day to commemorate their memory. Almost ten thousand people arrived on that “First Decoration Day.” Since then, Memorial Day has broadened to pay tribute to all fallen soldiers from every war.
If you or a loved one knows a soldier who gave their life for their country, we would love if you put their initials or name below so we can honor them.
We honor their service and sacrifice not just today, but every day.
