Going Wild with Wonderstruck: 5 Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Bible Study (and a Wonderstruck Wednesday Challenge)

Thousands of new friends from around the world have begun Wonderstruck 7-Session DVD Bible study from Lifeway. We’ve been blown away at the response! Non-believers coming to Jesus, friendships reconciling, marriages healing, and more—God truly is busting at the seams to display his power, glory, and might in our lives.

Here are some fresh ways to make the most out of your Wonderstruck Bible Study:

Going Wild with Wonderstruck: 5 Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Bible Study (and a Wonderstruck Wednesday Challenge)1)     Create a Remembering the Wonder jar. Our friend Sue from Silverton, Oregon created an activity to remind her Wonderstruck group about the faithful love of God.

Each group member wrote a meaningful verse, attribute of God, or moment where they have found themselves struck by the wonder of God on a stone. Then, during their time together, they shared what they wrote on their rocks and added them to the Wonder Jar. At the end of the study, they split up the stones and took them home to create your own Wonder Jar to continually be reminded of the wonder of God’s presence daily. (You can see a picture of their Wonder jar to the left).

Sue says through this activity she was reminded that “if they keep quiet, the very stones will cry out.” (Luke 19:40).

2)     Take the 30 Days of Wonder Challenge. In the back of the Wonderstruck book, you’ll find 30 Days of Wonder: A Challenge to Experience God More. On pages 173-188 (different locations in the eBook), you’ll find 30 challenges designed to awaken wonder in your life. Each activity won’t take very long—things like setting your alarm to watch the sunrise and reflect on God’s new mercies or spending twenty minutes in silence and simply be with God. One reader found the activities so life-changing that as soon as she finished the 30 days she began them again!

3)     Adopt an organization as a group. Support a local organization during your time together—perhaps a local shelter or food bank. Ask that organization what their needs are, both physical needs and how you can be praying. Commit to praying for this organization every time you meet. Schedule a time as a group and give your time, serve, and display the wonder of God to others.

4)     Create a Wonderstruck Treasure Map. Wonderstruck is an invitation to toss back the covers, climb out of bed, and drink in the fullness of life. Michelle from New Hope Seattle created a Wonderstruck Treasure Map for her Bible study group to aid in the feeling of expectation and wonder.

Michelle’s treasure map has when they are joining together to discuss Wonderstruck, but you can take this even further and create a Wonderstruck Treasure Hunt activity! Create your own treasure map and invite your group to split up into teams and see how many items they can find and capture in a photograph from the list. This can be done as a group during a discussion time, or as a bonus weekly activity—the person with the most treasure finds gets an extra-special prize.

    Margaret,
    I had a question for you about the 40 day scripture challenge: I want to know what your devotion time looks like now, after your experience. Do you find yourself reading more than before, or what?

    Also, wondering about the person you mentioned in one of your earlier blog posts. The one who was taking the challenge and said there “needs to be a hero.” I’ve been praying for them, and was just wondering if you’ve received an update?

    Good morning Margaret,
    I am back in Canada from our 6 months in Arizona. My group will be starting Wonderstruck soon – when I get back to Haliburton. We are babysitting our grandchildren right now. I brought the books with me.
    We have only 8 in our small group – but our town only has 1500 people. I wondered if you would consider a Skype call to us.

    I’ve been catching up on stacks and stacks of books that I didn’t get to read during Lent…all kinds of writers, pastors, theologians and more.

    The gal decided that part way through the Old Testament is was just too dark and so she’s now reading and making her way through the New Testament. Pretty awesome.
