Maybe Scripture memory comes easy for you.
I’ve always felt like a flunky. I’ve tried the printables, the 3X5 cards around the house and in the car, the screensavers, the audio recordings, and much more. I’m discovering coloring God’s Word is providing a much-needed breakthrough for me.
Does that surprise you?
One of the great benefits of Live Loved: An Adult Coloring Book is that it makes Scripture memory easy and enjoyable.
The process of coloring the words and surrounding images provide times for you to say the words aloud, interact with the passages, journal and ultimately craft God’s Word into your heart through creative expression.
I love seeing how friends’ choose to color and shade various pictures and then discuss what they discovered about God and themselves through the passage. Plus, it’s fun.
But Christian adult coloring books may be having a more profound impact than we realize. Consider this:
- Coloring is an anti-stress activity. Coloring stimulates areas of the brain associated with our senses, creativity and motor skills, according to psychologist Gloria Martinz Ayala. The process of coloring calms the part of the brain known as the amygdala, which controls our stress and emotions. As our focus shifts from our problems, our brains are soothed leaving us feeling more relaxed and rested.[i]
- Coloring may help those with PTSD. Science is still catching up with the coloring phenomenon. Because the coloring craze has swept the world so fast, scientist need more time to host studies and publish papers. But Brain scientist Dr. Joel Pearson makes the following observation:
“[The game Tetris] uses the same ‘imagery’ part of the brain as the distressing, traumatic images that pop up for sufferers of PTSD.
“I think that might be happening when people are colouring in as well. You have to look at the shape and size, you have to look at the edges, and you have to pick a colour. It should occupy the same parts of the brain that stops any anxiety-related mental imagery happening as well.”[ii]
Maybe you enjoy coloring for its stress reducing properties.
Or maybe you just enjoy time with your kids or grandkids.
Or maybe you enjoy the fresh, creative outlet.
Or maybe, like me, you need a fresh way to memorize Scripture.
Whatever the reason, grab a Christian coloring book and let’s learn to Live Loved together.

What a great idea! The colors, artistry, and the time spent meditating on the verse as you color helps create the multiple neural pathways to the verse that help make it stick. Thanks for sharing!
