sheep

I love the way God is at work and even uses a tiny sheep to accomplish his purposes.

For those of you who have read Scouting the Divine or been through the six-week Bible study, then you’re familiar with Lynne, the shepherdess, who I spent time with her and flock unpacking Scriptural truths.

Lynne and I continue to keep in touch, and I recently received the following note from her regarding a small sheep named Piaget. This precious creature was near death and Lynne nursed her back to life as a loving shepherdess.

While other shepherds would have given up on Piaget, Lynne never did–even waking in the middle of the night to crawl in the pen to be with Piaget.

Their story offers a rich portrait of God’s tender love for us.

Here is an update from Lynne on how God is still using Piaget for his purposes:

I wanted to share yet another thread in the marvelous way God has used the story of Piaget.

A while ago Piaget went to live with a dear friend of mine because she could be more safe there from rams. I wanted not possibility of her ever getting pregnant as I am not sure how that would be for her with no udder. I do control who my rams hook up with but sometimes the rams outsmart me and go through fences.

It was hard to say goodbye to Piaget, but she lives nearby and I do visit her on occasion.

Some months ago when I was visiting Piaget I met a man who was staying at my friends home for the weekend. Turns out he used to be with Wycliffe years ago and traveled extensively in Peru. Now he is on the board of a small private foundation in Oregon and travels here quarterly for the foundation board meetings. As we were chitty-chatting, some of our Peru stories came up. I spoke of the little two-room school we have been connected to in the most poor outskirts of Cusco that works with preschool kids. Sort of a Head Start Program. It is one of those adobe buildings with rebar sticking out of the top in dreams and hopes for a second floor.

Anyway, this conversation set some things in motion over the past few months and just yesterday I learned that the Foundation will fund the building of the second floor of this school.

Never would have happened if I had not been visiting our dear Piaget.

She is a sheep that has not followed the usual path of other ewes and some would say because she cannot have lambs she has no value, but I keep marveling at the enormous value I see as amazing things seem to happen because she “is.”

Lynne

Talk about amazing grace. I’m continually grateful for the lessons I learned from Lynne and her sweet sheep, Piaget.
