4 Things (Not) To Do on Valentine's Day

Even though pink and red hearts decorated the grocery stores for several months now, the holiday may be easy to forget. If you need some last minute suggestions on what (not) to do tonight, here are some brilliant, untraditional ideas for a good time:

1. Grab some friends and create a competition to see how many romantic nights you can spoil. Knock on your neighbor’s door and ask to borrow his kid’s spy equipment. Use your borrowed walkie-talkies and earpieces to communicate. Use code names. Water balloons and doorbell ditching are worth two points. Inviting yourself as a third wheel on a date is worth five. Total the points at the end of the evening to see who wins a grand prize.

2. Surprise your loved one with a romantic all-veggie dinner. Forget the traditional V-day champagne; go for a pureed smoothie of luscious green wheat grass. Forgo the chocolate dipped strawberries and sink your teeth into crunchy chocolate dipped celery.

3. Create a date centered only on your interests. Batter your eyelashes and ask to switch plans for Valentines Day. Spend the day at a nearby craft fair or in your favorite department stores. Sit in front of the TV and flip between ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN Deportes, and ESPNU. After all, today is all about what you love, right?

4. Chick flicks aren’t for everyone. Shock your date with a movie ticket to the newest horror movie. Blood, guts, gore, are all mood setters for an intimate evening. Let fear and terror bring you closer together as a couple.

If you’re not warming to these ideas, you can always take your loved one or friends to a local ceramics studio where you can paint the night away. Once the piece is fired you’ll have a tangible reminder of a fun time. Or host your own Iron Chef competition with chocolate as the secret ingredient. Happy Valentine’s Day!

How are you celebrating Valentine’s Day? (Any zany ways?)
