There’s a trend that’s been building for some time.

I’m wondering if you’ve noticed it, too.

We used to have some notice or warning when something was about to happen.

But the world has lost its dimmer switch.

Now much feels like a flip switch.

Change happens suddenly with little to no warning.

Earlier this fall, the teachers in our district who had secured childcare discovered the day before school started that all the funds for the promised childcare were gone and left them scrambling.

Our friends had been saving and working to buy a vehicle that offered a tax break for over a year. Overnight the tax break was gone.

Other friends who had jobs and confidence in their workplace now find themselves shocked and unemployed.

Our little town suddenly had wild, flooding monsoons regularly, something we’ve never experienced before and really weren’t built for. They hit fast and hard and leave mud clogging the streets.

I’m slack-jawed by how challenges appear and known entities disappear, without warning, as quick as the flip of a switch.

Out of nowhere or here and gone.

If something has changed suddenly on you in this topsy turvy world, friend, you are not alone.

If ever there was a time to build your life on the rock, it is now.

“The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock” (Matthew 7:25).

As we enter the fall, look for opportunities to plug into a Bible study or even lead one! Ground yourself in Scripture, gird yourself in God’s love, surround yourself with the saints.

They will help you navigate a world that’s lost its dimmer switch.

I love you.

Margaret
