I’ve always struggled buying the perfect gift—you know, the one your loved one remembers for years to come. Maybe you struggle shopping for the Person-Who-Has-Everything, too.

It’s too small. Not the right color. They have three just like it.

Rather than preparing my heart for the coming birth of Christ during Advent, I find I get trapped in wish lists, gift budgets, and picking out that perfect present.

If you’re like me, the weeks leading up to Christmas are all too often filled with lists and to-dos. Instead of living in wild expectation of Jesus’ birth, I find myself standing in lines at grocery stories, boutiques, and big box stores.

I want to be looking for God in the snowflakes and crow’s song, in friendships and dirty mangers, but all too often, I’m distracted by the busyness of the Christmas season. This Christmas, I want to live with eyes wide open, in divine expectation that God is ready to meet me wherever I am. And I hope you’ll join me.

The Washington Post just published an article that I've been working on regarding the Christmas Wars.The fight over what kind wish the person checking us out at local retailers has made national news for enough Christmases to leave everyone weary. Jon Stewart recently suggested that if the Christmas Wars have become anything, they've become "predictable."
