Though we are given names before or shortly after we emerge from the womb, our names are often reflections of who God has created us to be or the work God wants to do in our lives. [Tweet this]Do you know the meaning of your name? [Tweet this] If not, take a moment to search for the meaning of your name online. Then spend ten minutes prayerfully reflecting on how God has demonstrated his love and goodness in the meaning of your name as well as who he has called and created you to be. I have a bookmark that someone gave me once that says my name means “strong tower” – I feel like I’ve had to be one for much of my life but know I could not continue being one with out the one true Strong Tower.
I also saw one website that said Tara means “godess of the sea”…now I don’t quite consider myself a godess HOWEVER, I do LOVE the ocean and being at the beach, it is one of the places I most connect with the Lord…so I’ll adapt that to mean I was meant to “meet God at the Sea”. Oh will the wonders ever cease! #LIVEWONDERSTRUCK
Tara, what cool meanings! And what cool meanings coupled together! Thanks for sharing!
Well I had no idea what my full name meant…roseann….so I did look it up….graceful rosé was one meaning….or favor; grace (the Hebrew meaning)….I think I am going to ponder this a bit…thanks for the encouragement to find the meaning….have a blessed day~
Ro, what did you conclude after pondering the meaning of your name?
Margaret,
I have known for a long time that my name meant “grace” but didn’t know about “God is gracious” and somewhere else I read “Gift of God”. Love them all. It is by grace we have been saved. Praise the Lord. Sing His song. Hallelujah.
Blessings,
Janis
Janis, they are all beautiful meanings!
This was very interesting to me because I was always told that my name in Hebrew meant “perfect one.” But today when I was exploring various websites I also found that it meant “palm tree and spice.” This is quite intriguing to me because one of my all time favorite Bible verses is: 2 Corinthians 12:9 – But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. I LOVE this verse! The second very interesting aspect is that I LOVE palm trees. As you may have noticed from some of my picture posts, palm trees are everywhere in my life space. And last but not least, many have said to me that I am the spice and seasoning in their life and I always think of Matthew 5:13-16 – “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” This verse has inspired me to “be the salt and light” in my circle of life. Soooooooo, knowing all of this, I am thinking that my name was not necessarily a coincidence, but a “God-thing.” Thank you God for everything that you have blessed my family and I with and please continue to enlighten me and grow me in Christ-likeness. <3 #LIVEWONDERSTRUCK
In Hebrew Daniel means “God is my judge” and in Irish and Welsh it means attractive – blushing 😉
Dan, those are both great meanings!
Tammie, those are wonderful things to learn about your name! And great applications to his word! Love those verses!
